The Schools
Centro Linguistico Italiano Dante Alighieri (CLIDA), founded in 1965 is directed by Alberto and Gabriella Materassi. It is Italy's first private language school. The primary location of the school is Florence, the birthplace of Dante Alighieri who is known as "the father of the Italian language". A second language center was opened in Rome in 1978, and at present, CLI Dante Alighieri is comprised of two schools in Florence and one in Rome. Currently, our schools in Florence have been set up specifically for hosting study abroad programs. Our school in Rome carries on other specific language programs destined for other target groups. CLIDA is a special place which has always been felt by all programs it has hosted.

The students that attend our schools feel comfortable in our surroundings; they have easy access to all that the centers have to offer and find our friendly assistance relieving after experiencing their first culture shock. Although, often, CLIDA acts only as a Host Institution (as some programs have their own in-house coordination and staff) the students are treated as if they were our own with cordiality and assisted when necessary.

CLIDA's teaching staff is composed of highly qualifed professional professors with Masters degrees in subjects as Humanities, Political and Social Sciences as well as Natural Sciences and Economics.

CLIDA's staff is fluent in English, and are familiar with many international systems of education and expectations of international students. The staff is comprised of various international backgrounds and also speak many languages including: Flemish, Portughese, German, Slovenian, French and Greek.

CLIDA offers excellent support services to ensure that students are well integrated into a study abroad experience. We staff the most qualified, competent personnel who have an extensive experience with foreign students and who understand the different language accents and who assist program co-ordinators, visiting staff, and directors, with all facets of office automation and queries.
