Rome
Rome is located in the region of Lazio, in the south of Italy. Being the capital of Italy, it is a flourishing city of business, trade and politics. In Rome there are an infinite number of attractions and landmarks, some dating as far back as the second century. In much of modern Rome you can visually trace over a thousand years of western historical development.

As you walk through the streets of Rome, you perceive the natural blend of both past and present. The overwhelming still standing structure of the Colosseum against the hustle and bustle of peak hour traffic. The general street life, sounds and smells of contemporary living against an ancient past full of sancturaries, forums and pantheons.

Rome has a very intense cultural and intellectual life and is also the headquarters of UN agencies and the scholarly academies of many nations. The city is a cosmopolitan metropolis with all the attractions and amenities of a major European capital. Romans are "simpatici" and you will always find them out at night pacing the streets on their regular "passeggiata", eating at the many wonderful and diverse restaurants and talking and gesticulating with their hands which is endearingly considered their trademark!

From Rome, Naples and its environs, including Mt. Vesuvius, Pompeii, Sorrento, and Positano, are easily reached by train. Other points of interest not far from Rome are the islands of Capri and Sardegna and the beaches of Calabria.
