Courses
These courses
focus on stimulating the student's perception of some of the great
accomplishments that the Italian civlization has produced over many
hundreds of years.
All content courses are conducted in English or Italian.
Courses cover: Art, History, Geography, Music, Cinema, Literature,
Costume, Theater, Politics and Economics.
A few course
examples are:
- Art
and art history - Lessons aim at tapping the sources
of Italy's unique artistic heritage via analysis of style, guided
tours etc. Painters are studied and placed in their historical
and cultural context in an effort to more fully appreciate their
beauty and significance.
- Literature
- Literary analysis through close readings of texts from major
themes in principal prose work and an overview of issues in order
to help students understand the spirit that pervades Italian Literature.
- Theater
- The course examines the origins of theater spanning from the
classics to contemporary playwrights. Vast audiovisual material
is used which includes rare films that show superb interpretations
by famous Italian actors.
- Classical
music panorama
- History of Music, seminars on musical instruments and on the
art of listening.
- Italian
society
- In this course the modern history of the Italian Republic is
studied from its birth in 1948 to the present day. Socio-cultural
aspects are analyzed so that the student has a clear understanding
of the phenomenon of contemporary society.
- Geo
Political - The principal phases of the establishment
of the Italian States through the World wars to the fall of Fascism.
The course examines historical figures that contributed to the
Unification of Italy and its political relations with other European
countries.
